Embracing Heritage: Musgraves' Texas-Inspired Musical Journey Continues
A Deep Dive into Texan Roots with New Releases
Kacey Musgraves, the acclaimed artist, is proudly showcasing her Texas origins and the rich borderland history that defines it with the upcoming release of "Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes." This enhanced version of her 2026 album, "Middle of Nowhere," introduces fresh material, including the lively track "Weekend in Texas" and a heartfelt rendition of the iconic norteño song "Mi Tesoro."
Musical Fusion: "Weekend in Texas" and "Mi Tesoro"
"Weekend in Texas" offers a vibrant, ranchera-tinged soundscape, characterized by cowbells and the melancholic twang of a pedal steel guitar. In this track, Musgraves' signature wit shines through as she bids farewell to a former lover and embarks on a journey back to her cherished home state. In contrast, "Mi Tesoro" sees the country artist embracing a more subdued tempo, delivering her own interpretation of the norteño classic originally made famous by Cornelio Reyna, often revered as the genre's patriarch.
Expanding Horizons: Spanish-Language Collaborations
Earlier this month, Musgraves unveiled her inaugural original song in Spanish, a re-recorded version of "Uncertain, TX," featuring the collaboration of fellow Texan band Intocable. The "Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes" will further include two more Spanish-language compositions, underscoring Musgraves' dedication to acknowledging and honoring the profound Mexican influence that permeates Texas country music.
A Glimpse into the Future: Album Details and Thematic Exploration
Both "Weekend in Texas" and "Mi Tesoro" serve as compelling previews of the extensive 16-track deluxe album, "Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes," scheduled for release on January 15, 2027. Through this new collection, Musgraves delves deeper into a transitional period of her life, exploring profound themes of personal reflection, solitude, and finding contentment within oneself.
Touring Milestones: Wrapping Up a Successful Journey
The announcement of this deluxe edition coincides with the culmination of Musgraves' successful 34-date U.S. leg of the "Middle of Nowhere" tour, set to conclude on October 27. Following this, the artist will take her tour internationally, with a series of performances scheduled across Australia and the United Kingdom in January.
